PMIC News | ZJU-PMIC Doctoral Student Fu Chaowei Attends IEEE APEC 2026, an International Power Electronics Conference, in San Antonio, USA

From March 22 to 26, 2026, the 41st IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC 2026) was held in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Fu Chaowei, a doctoral student of the Power Management Innovation Consortium (PMIC), attended the conference and delivered an oral presentation titled “10MHz 48V-12V DCX With 6100W/in³ Power Density for Future Data Center Applications.”

IEEE APEC is a globally recognized top-tier academic conference in the field of power electronics, covering frontier directions such as power devices, converter topologies, control technologies, and system integration. It attracts thousands of experts, scholars, and company representatives from academia and industry every year.

At this conference, focusing on the high-density power supply needs of future data centers, Fu Chaowei presented the innovative research achievement “10MHz non-isolated 48V-12V DCX.”

The year-by-year increase in GPU power consumption imposes stringent requirements on the power density of board-level 48V-12V power modules. Centering on the theme of high-frequency operation, the ZJU-PMIC team reduces the volume of passive components in power modules by increasing the operating frequency, thereby improving the power density of the DCX. ZJU-PMIC evolved the traditional isolated LLC topology into a non-isolated 4:1 LLC topology suitable for high-frequency operation. For the above 4:1 non-isolated LLC topology, a 10MHz 48V-12V DCX prototype was developed.

The experimental prototype achieved a peak efficiency of 94.2% (at the peak power point: 204W), and at 436W full load it achieved a power density of 6100W/in³, providing a technical path for compact power supply solutions in next-generation data center 48V bus architectures.

ZJU-PMIC subsequently optimized the switch selection, magnetic structure, and driving circuit. The new experimental prototype achieved a power density of 7300W/in³ and a peak efficiency of 95.6%. The latest results will be presented as a poster at the PMIC Spring Symposium on April 18.

During the conference, Fu Chaowei engaged in in-depth exchanges with power electronics experts and company R&D personnel from multiple countries, and actively introduced PMIC’s latest progress in the field of high-density power conversion. This academic journey not only broadened the student’s international perspective, but also effectively enhanced PMIC’s academic influence in the field of power electronics.
