Good News! ZJU-PMIC Team’s Invention Patent “A Control Method for a Three-Level Converter and Related Components” Granted Authorization!

March 11, 2026

The invention patent “A Control Method for a Three-Level Converter and Related Components” applied for by the ZJU-PMIC team was granted authorization by the China National Intellectual Property Administration on March 3, 2026, demonstrating the ZJU-PMIC team’s independent innovation capability in the field of power electronics technology. This patent mainly addresses the control challenges of three-level converters and proposes a self-voltage-balancing topology based on flying-capacitor three-level (FC-3L) technology and its control method. This scheme cleverly introduces a set of auxiliary clamping diodes on the basis of the traditional FC-3L circuit. By adjusting the duty cycle of the switches, the flying capacitor voltage is dynamically clamped to the midpoint of the bus voltage, thereby achieving excellent natural voltage balancing under open-loop conditions. Clamping mechanism under asynchronous duty cycle control As the most commonly used multilevel converter today, the three-level converter offers low voltage stress on switching devices and small output voltage […]

Packaging Integration Method for High-Power SiC Modules Based on an All-Copper Sintered Cu-CLIP Architecture

January 30, 2026

Project Overview As the current-carrying density (>500 A/cm²) and heat flux density (more than three times that of silicon-based devices) of SiC MOSFETs significantly surpass those of silicon-based IGBTs and continue to increase, the limitations of traditional bond-wire interconnections in current-carrying capability and heat dissipation performance have become increasingly prominent, becoming a key bottleneck constraining the performance and reliability of high-power SiC modules. To overcome this limitation, this project proposes an all-copper sintered Cu-Clip integrated packaging method, aiming to fundamentally improve the electrical interconnection current-carrying capability, thermal management efficiency, and long-term operational reliability of high-power SiC modules. Technical Achievements and Innovation Highlights This project is the first to propose a packaging integration method for high-power SiC modules based on an all-copper sintered Cu-Clip interconnection architecture. The core innovations and process implementations are as follows: (1) System-level-to-chip-level all-low-temperature copper sintering interconnection. This method achieves low-temperature copper sintering between the heat sink […]

Dynamic Capacitor Voltage Balancing Modulation Strategy for Four-Level Flying-Capacitor PFC

November 28, 2025

Against the backdrop of high data center loads, improving the power density of server power supplies has become an industry consensus. At present, server power supplies mainly adopt a two-stage architecture: a front-end PFC and a rear-end DCDC. For the front-end PFC, multilevel converters can significantly improve power density while ensuring high efficiency. However, one of the application pain points of flying-capacitor multilevel converters is the voltage balancing problem of the flying capacitors, especially the dynamic voltage balancing problem. Based on a four-level flying-capacitor totem-pole PFC topology, the Zhejiang University PMIC team proposed a modulation strategy that dynamically maintains flying-capacitor voltage balancing, supporting next-generation server power supply systems. Voltage Balancing Challenges of Flying-Capacitor Multilevel Topologies Although multilevel topologies can effectively reduce the voltage stress of switching devices and increase the equivalent switching frequency, the voltage balancing problem of flying capacitors has always been key to constraining their performance and reliability.
